About the Department of Electrical Engineering

The Department of Electrical Engineering is one of the most recent additions to the Institute, having been established in February 2005. The Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) program in Electrical Engineering commenced in the academic year 2006-07.

The Electrical Engineering Department, founded in February 2005, is among the newest additions to the institute. The Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech.) program in Electrical Engineering was introduced in the 2006-07 academic year. Despite its recent establishment, the electrical engineering section builds upon a three-decade legacy within the Institute as part of the Mining Machinery Engineering Department. Currently, the department offers B.Tech. program in electrical engineering and dual-degree options. It also provides Master of Technology (M. Tech.) programs in Power System Engineering and Power Electronics and Electrical Drives. The department's research activities are primarily conducted through sponsored projects, doctoral and postdoctoral programs.

From Head's Desk

The Department of Electrical Engineering has established itself as a premier contributor in the eastern region of the country. It is supported by a strong research and development framework, featuring advanced laboratory infrastructure that fosters innovative research, leading to the production of high-quality publications and patents.

The organization's commitment to excellence is exemplified by its innovative pedagogical approaches by distinguished faculty members, state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, comprehensive software resources, industry-aligned curriculum. Over the past two decades, the department has effectively established a strong alumni network, with numerous members holding leadership positions at the national level.

The department has cultivated a culture of organizing seminars, symposiums, short courses, executive development programs, and workshops. It serves approximately 650 students, making it the third-largest department in terms of student enrollment, and boasts 28 faculty members contributing to various cutting-edge areas in Electrical Engineering. The association of our Director, Prof. Sukumar Mishra, a renowned researcher and innovator in Power and Energy, has further enhanced the department's reputation and visibility of late.

The department has consistently pursued excellence, and its improving performance in academic programs, research initiatives, industry collaborations, and external funding is poised to significantly enhance its global presence soon.
