About Me: I embarked on my journey in Marine Geophysics after earning my M.Tech. in Applied Geophysics from the University of Roorkee in 1983, joining the National Institute of Oceanography, Goa, on July 30, 1984. Over the years, I have gained specialized training in India and abroad in acquiring and interpreting marine magnetic, gravity, and seismic (reflection and refraction) data. My research has been dedicated to unraveling the tectonic framework of the Indian Ocean, with a particular focus on the Arabian and Eastern Somali basins and the western continental margin of India. Through extensive fieldwork and advanced data analysis—incorporating bathymetry, marine magnetics, gravity surveys, and single-/multi-channel seismic reflection studies—I have contributed to both fundamental and applied research, enhancing our understanding of continental margins and adjacent deep-sea regions. With four decades of research experience, I have specialized in marine geophysical data acquisition, processing, and interpretation, as well as the planning and execution of numerous national and international scientific projects. My contributions include the publication of over 116 scientific papers and reports and participation in approximately 1,200 days of research expeditions aboard both Indian and international vessels. I have had the privilege of leading several research expeditions as Chief of Expedition, overseeing marine geophysical surveys and data collection at sea. In addition, I have spearheaded multiple nearshore field survey programs, providing scientific advisory services to government agencies and coastal industries. By applying specialized research expertise, these initiatives have contributed to informed decision-making in marine resource management, coastal infrastructure development, and environmental sustainability. Beyond research, I have played an active role in teaching and mentoring, guiding Ph.D. scholars, M.Tech. and M.Sc. dissertation students, and summer interns. My scientific contributions have been widely recognized by government and academic institutions, earning prestigious honors such as the Krishnan Medal, National Mineral Award, and National Geoscience Award, along with a post-doctoral fellowship. Additionally, I have contributed as an editorial board member of scientific journals, examiner for Ph.D. theses, and evaluator for postgraduate research, further enriching the field of marine geophysics.

Research Interest: My research interests cover a broad spectrum of marine geophysics, from fundamental tectonic processes to applied exploration and policy-related aspects, which include: - Marine geophysical prospecting: Gravity, magnetic, and seismic techniques. - High-resolution seismic surveys for nearshore exploration. -Oceanfloor morphology and tectonics. -Seafloor Spreading and Plate Boundaries. -Continental margins and their geophysical characteristics. -Delimitation of Extended Continental Shelves. -Application of geophysical techniques to support coastal industries. -Coastal Zones Management and Regulations.
