BRIEF: Right to Information Act, 2005 mandates timely response to citizen requests for government information. It is an initiative taken by Department of Personnel and Training, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Government of India to provide the citizens of India to secure access to information under the control of public authorities amongst others, besides access to RTI related information / disclosures published on the web by various Public Authorities under the government of India as well as the State Governments.
The basic object of the Right to Information Act is to:-
- Empower the citizens,
- Promote transparency,
- Promote accountability in the working of the Government,
- Contain corruption, and
- Make our democracy work for the people in real sense.It goes without saying that an informed citizen is better equipped to keep necessary vigil on the instruments of governance and make the government more accountable to the governed. The Act is a big step towards making the citizens informed about the activities of the Government.
IIT(ISM), Dhanbad, being an Autonomous Body of Central Government, is covered under this act.
Suo-moto/proactive disclosure of information u/s 4(1) of rti act, 2005
The RTI Act under section 4 provides a comprehensive framework for promoting openness in functioning of the public authorities. While Section 4(1) (a) provides a general guideline for record management, so that the information could be easily stored and retained, the sub-sections b, c and d of Section 4 relate to the organizational objects and functions. Sub-sections (b), (c) and (d) of Section 4 of the RTI Act and other related information can be grouped under six categories; namely:-
- Organization and function
- Budget and programmes
- Publicity and public interface
- E. governance
- Information as prescribed and
- Information disclosed on own initiative.

Key objective of the institute
The primary objective of the IIT (ISM), Dhanbad is to provide trained manpower, scientists, Technologists in the areas of technology, engineering and management, applied sciences and applied arts of highest caliber who would engage in teaching, research, designing and development to help in the development of nation in the areas of science and technology towards self-reliance in her technological needs.

- To undertake sponsored research and development, consultancy.
- To impart manpower training through continuing education programs.
- To organize conferences, seminars and short term courses.

A Citizen of India can seek information prescribed under provisions of RTI Act, 2005 through Offline as well as online mode. In Offline mode, the applicant can download the RTI Application given in the below mentioned link, fill the application in all fields, do the payment online/offline, attach the payment proof and send the application through post to CPIO at the above mentioned address. In Online mode, the applicant can visit RTI portal of government and seek information through respective portal.
