About Me: Anup Krishna Prasad is an Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Geology at the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad. He has over 16.5 years of post-doctoral research and teaching experience. His areas of specialization and research interests include: FTIR Spectroscopy of Coal/Shale/Soil/Minerals/Rocks, Coal characterization, and spectral response of natural materials. Hyperspectral Remote Sensing and FTIR Spectroscopy for Exploration. Digital Image Processing and Spatial Analysis of microphotographs and remotely sensed satellite images. Geostatistics & GIS, including Geostatistical Modeling and Ore Reserve Estimation, Aerosols, Snow Cover, Urban Heat Island, and Climate Change issues. He has been the Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator on several sponsored research projects funded by agencies such as DST, NASA, USDA-NSF-NIFA, IGC, and SSAI. He has published 38+ refereed journal articles, with a Google Scholar h-index of 27, i10-index of 33, and over 3,350 citations. In terms of intellectual property, he holds one granted US patent (US7702597) on crop yield prediction using weather and agricultural parameters, and has two recent Indian patent applications (2024) focusing on innovative methods for coal analysis using mid-infrared Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Professor Prasad has also been actively involved in various administrative duties at the institute, including serving as the Chairman of the Documentation Cell, Associate Dean (Academic PG), and Associate Dean (Industrial Research & Consultancy).
