About Me: Prof. D. P. Mishra, received his M.Tech in Mine Planning and Design from IIT (ISM) Dhanbad in 2004 and Ph.D. in Mining Engineering from IIT Kharagpur in 2008. He joined IIT (ISM) as a faculty in 2008 and currently heading the Department of Mining Engineering. Prof. Mishra is also holding the D. B. Aggarwal Chair Professor position in the Department of Mining Engineering, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad. His areas of research include mine ventilation and subsurface environment, spontaneous combustion of coal and mine fire, mine explosion, application of CFD in mine ventilation and environment, methane drainage and CBM, and utilization of fly ash and mill tailings in mine backfilling.
Prof. Mishra has authored more than 100 research papers. He has guided 13 Ph.D. and 21 M.Tech students. Prof. Mishra figured among world's top 2% scientists in a global list compiled by Stanford University in the year 2021, 2023, and 2024. He is also a recipient of number of prestigious awards, such as MGMI Bronze Medal, Dr. Rajendra Prasad Memorial Prize, State Bank of India Best Researcher Award, Sukumar Rakshit Award, Canara Bank Research Publication Award, Hindustan Zinc Limited Award, for his outstanding research contributions in the fields of mine ventilation, environment and sustainable mining. Prof. Mishra has visited countries like Australia, South Africa, China, Singapore, and Bangladesh. He is serving as the Editorial Board Member of the Journal of Sustainable Mining and also as Expert Member in the Boards of several reputed Government Organizations.
