About Me: Dr. Saifi Izhar serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering department at the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) in Dhanbad, India. Prior to his tenure, he worked at World Research Institute (WRI) as a Postdoctoral Consultant for the Clean Air Catalyst Project for Indore city. His educational background includes a B.Tech in Civil Engineering obtained from Aligarh Muslim University, India, in 2014, as well as M.Tech and a PhD in Environmental Engineering, both acquired from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, India, in 2016 and 2021, respectively. Dr. Saifi Izhar is a prolific academic and researcher with a substantial body of work to his name, including dozen research papers published in peer-reviewed international journals and conferences along with multiple research grant from national and international funding organizations and industry. He is a recipient of prestigious PhD fellowship from the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD).

Academic Activities

  • Organized a full day Indo-UK Workshop on addressing Indoor Air Quality Challenges in Dhanbad on May 18, 2024 under the sponsored R&D project (UoY/2023-2024/1082/ESE) in association with Dr. Darpan Das from the University of York, UK. The total number of participants enrolled was 40 including rural household women, traffic personals, road sweepers, drivers, and students.
  • Served as an External for a Ph.D. thesis of Sri Durga Prasad student in Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning institute, Prasanthi Nilayam, Sri Sathya Sai District, Andhra Pradesh, India, on dated 11 march 2024.
  • Served as an External Judge to the science fest organised in DPS Dhanbad School.
  • Contributed to the preparation of the study material for the training program “Exposure-visit-cum-Training Programme for College Students of Jharkhand State” conducted by IIT(ISM) ENVIS Centre, dated 2nd Jan 2022 and acted as one of the field expert during the training program.

  • Participated in CAPHER-India Workshop titled "Designing and implementing Air pollution and Health Effects research studies", organized by AIIMS, New Delhi from 17 to 19 May, 2022.
  • Visited BARC, Mumbai (R&D institution) under the Faculty Mobility Program (FMP) from 4 to 16 July 2022. Scientist Arshad Khan was the host scientist. As a result of FMP, a research idea is shared with the host institution and preliminary experiments are conducted to detail out the toxicity assessment of aerosols.
  • Selected for research work Presentation in the forthcoming international Asian Aerosol conference (AAC) being organized in Malaysia on Nov, 2024.
