About Me: In 2008, Sumanta Kumar Padhi obtained his PhD from the Chemistry Department at IIT Guwahati. He spent three and a half years working for the Prof. Koji Tanaka Group at the Institute for Molecular Science, Japan, after joining the group in December 2008 as a MEXT Postdoctoral Fellow. In 2012, he joined in EWHA Womans University as a Postdoctoral Fellow under the World Class University Program (WCU), collaborating with Professors Antoni Llobet and Wonwoo Nam. As a Special Appointment Professor, he began working with Prof. Wonwoo Nam at the Bio-redox Research Center in April 2013. In July 2013, he started as an assistant professor in the Department of Applied Chemistry at IIT(ISM) Dhanbad. Since 2021, he has been working as an Associate Professor in the Chemistry and Chemical Biology Department at IIT(ISM) Dhanbad. His research focuses on developing highly effective homogeneous catalysts for the activation of small molecules and the use of CO2 and NH3 for energy storage in order to build a sustainable society.

Research Interest: Artificial Photosynthesis (Sustainable Future and Green Energy) The following major AREAs we explore. CO2 reduction and Hydrogenation; NH3 Oxidation to Green Hydrogen; HCOOH Dehydrogenation; Proton reduction and Water Oxidation; and Electrochemical Transformations of Organic Compounds. The Group explore the synthesis of Novel ligands and their transition metal complexes. The complexes are employed to explore the catalytic activities in the above areas.
