About Me: Dr. Swapnil Mishra graduated in 2010 from Government Engineering College Rewa, affiliated with RGTU, and earned her M.Tech in Geotechnical Engineering from Delhi College of Engineering in 2013. She later pursued her Ph.D. at IIT Delhi, completing it in 2019. Following her doctorate, she secured a prestigious postdoctoral position in the Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering Research Group at Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology, South Korea. Dr. Mishra’s academic career includes serving as an Assistant Professor (Level-10) in the Department of Civil Engineering at Pandit Deendayal Energy University, Gandhinagar, from 2019 to 2020. In 2020, she was appointed as a Scientist (Grade IV-2) in Geotechnical Engineering at CRRI Delhi. Later that year, she joined IIT (ISM) Dhanbad as an Assistant Professor (Level-11), where she continues to contribute significantly to research and academia. Her research expertise spans a broad range of topics, including tunneling and underground space development, high-strain rate loading, physical modeling, blast and seismic loads, finite element analysis, geomaterial characterization, and crack formation and propagation. She has been actively involved in organizing executive development programs for NHPC executives at IIT Dhanbad. Currently, she supervises three Ph.D. students and has successfully guided several M.Tech and B.Tech students, leading to high-quality publications. She encourages her students to participate in national and international conferences, fostering a culture of academic excellence. Dr. Mishra's research methodology is unique, integrating empirical and theoretical approaches to validate experimental results. She has demonstrated exceptional capabilities in both physical and numerical modeling, designing and developing an Impact Testing Facility (ITF) and a dedicated laboratory for her studies. Her work has significant implications for designing underground urban tunnel linings subjected to blast and impact loads. Through rigorous experimental and finite element investigations, she has advanced the understanding of tunnel lining deformations under impact conditions, contributing to the development of sophisticated fracture models for underground structures. Recognized for her outstanding research contributions, Dr. Mishra was honored as one of the top 75 Women Leaders in India in Geotechnical Engineering by the Indian Geotechnical Society. She was also featured in the book Daughters of Soil for her remarkable achievements. Additionally, she received the Women Achiever Award 2023 during the 98th Foundation Day of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, further solidifying her reputation as a leading figure in her field.
